Philippians 3:12 NIV «Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.»
When you think of the word unstoppable, many people may come to mind, like a mighty superhero fighting his most powerful enemy or maybe even your favorite soccer player during the 4th quarter of the World Cup. We think of something or someone who can overcome any obstacle in their way, especially when they are working towards an ultimate goal.
This may lead you to ask yourself many questions, such as, “Can I be unstoppable in my goals?” “What are my goals for this next year?” “Why does it feel like sometimes I am stoppable or not advancing on my own?”
In this Bible passage, Paul begins by stating that he is not yet perfect but is working toward his goal of living more like Christ. You might expect that he believed that he had conquered all spiritual difficulties and saw himself as having arrived at near perfection. Yet he assured us this was not so. Because Paul realized he had not arrived, there was only one option open for him. He had to press on. There was no turning back for Him.
In the same way, you may have many accomplishments under your belt, but you have realized that you are not ultimately where you need to be yet. You may have reached this point in your life thanks to your strength; however, you will need to take hold of God’s strength to truly fulfill the purpose He has placed over your life and to truly become unstoppable in the life that God has given to you.
Paul pressed on for what Jesus wanted. His effort was put forth to do God’s will, not his own. For you to press on and become unstoppable in your goals, you must learn to catch hold of God’s will and pull it down, like a child on his birthday who wants to hold on to the gift from his parents and not let go until he makes it his own .
This passage is centered around the idea that Jesus Christ had laid a hold on Paul’s life, just like He has laid a hold on your life. He has done this according to His Word in order to make you a new creation, to conform you to His image, to make you a witness for His kingdom, and to be a worship leader who impacts the world!
That’s why you press on. That’s what makes you unstoppable. Not your own strength for your own goals, but Christ’s strength in you to attain His goals for your life. We must all work toward living more like Christ and be committed to the goal of the call of Christ Jesus.
